MAKE A DIFFERENCE - SEND A MESSAGE!

BACKGROUND:

The environmentals will tell you this is just a California issue. They don't want you to know the facts. The Central Valley of California feeds our nation!

In 2007, a federal judge ruled state and federal pumps sending some 6 million acre-feet of delta water south to Kern County farmers and other users could wipe out the endangered smelt, a tiny silver fish. The court ruled pumping had to be curtailed by about a third until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service could weigh in on the problem.

On February 21, 2009, the federal agency submitted a 400-page “biological opinion” to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on the effects of pumping by the Federal Central Valley Project and the California State Water Project. The agency concluded pumping was “likely to jeopardize the continued existence of the delta smelt and adversely modify its critical habitat,” and offered a plan to mitigate damage.

The plan... keep the water off and impose even more limits that could kick in under certain conditions. Further cuts would be triggered in a variety of scenarios, including limited rainfall during key periods in the fish’s spawning cycle.

In other words - The Fish before America's food supply!

Why is this important for your community and your family. Can you trust the government to be right about your food's safety? The food not being grown in "America's Breadbasket" now comes from third-world nations and countries that are not our friends.

Last year, thousands of Americas were sickened by food poisoning linked to salmonella.

June 27 2008 Thus far, over 750 people have contracted salmonella from the tainted tomatoes and at least 95 have been hospitalized. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that most people fell ill weeks ago, but their cases had not yet been counted. The agency said that the sudden increase in reported illnesses resulted from an end to the backlog of test results in labs. The last new cases were reported on June 13.

KILLER Tomato panic spread across the nation. California grows 94% of the nation's tomatoes. Supermarkets throughout the country pulled "potentially dangerous tomatoes" from store shelves. Fast food chain did the same. Crops were plowed under costing America's farmers to lose millions of dollars in revenue and loss of family farms imminent.

Oh yes... we can trust the government!

July 1 2008 Federal investigators are now saying that fresh tomatoes may not necessarily be the cause! On July 25 FDA recommended consumers avoid only raw jalapeno peppers coming from Mexico, thus clearing those cultivated in the United States. Earlier in the week, the health agency issued a warning according to which all jalapeno peppers were believed to be linked to the approximately 1,300 salmonella cases registered since April. Last week, the FDA announced it had finally found a Mexico-grown jalapeno pepper with the Saintpaul strain of salmonella.

With all this as a background, your Congress wants to pass even more government interference with America's farmers and ranchers. HR 2749 would empower FDA to regulate how crops are raised and harvested. It puts the federal government right on the farm, dictating to our farmers.

WHY MEETUP and WHY NOW?

Whether you're in California or New York City, this is your food. The news media will not oppose well funded, ad buying environmental special interests that want the water to remain off. Your Congress refuses to act, yielding to the same wealthy special interests that shut the water off. The Administration has advisers who put fish on the same level as humans. They have refused to act.

Bing this issue to your Meetup Groups, help us provide aid to the 40,000 unemployed farm workers and family farmers that have lost everything.

Watch this video to witness the devastation firsthand.

Saturday, November 21st we can join together to send a message about the threat to our national security through America's food supply. We will stream our WATER FOR FARMLANDS FORUM on the Internet so your groups can be a part of this effort. How you approach the issue is up to your group. In Sacramento, we are presenting it this way:

California State Capital - Saturday November 21st

This is a non-partisan educational event for the whole family!
Setup & Booth Browsing - 9:00 to 11:00 AM
Expert speakers, Q&A and featured entertainment 11AM to 3PM

In our files section you will soon find lots of resources to draw from. Share them with your family, school classes, your neighborhood associations, church or civic groups.

Folks, this is NOT a Tea Party event! The concept originated with members of the 9/12 National Organizers and Leaders HUB in September. Others have seen the importance of this national issue. November 21th three caravans are arriving in California, two of which will pass through Sacramento Saturday morning. These groups are sponsored by a national grassroots organization with chapters around the country. They will deliver gathered donations to the farmers through Water For All http://www.waterforall.org. We on the other hand are working directly with the farmers but support, in principle, the efforts of these other organizations. We tend to steer clear of partisan politics when issues face all families in our nation.

Thank you for taking time to read the issues and passing them on. We look forward to your participation as you see fit on November 21, 2009.
